RECONNECT Citizen Science – Re-connect the lines to protect marine life

Welcome to the RECONNECT Citizen Science project!

Citizen Science refers to the general public engagement in scientific research activities when citizens actively contribute to science either with their intellectual effort or surrounding knowledge or with their tools and resources.

One of the main goals of the project is for the public to be engaged and involved in the scientific research which is achieved through the citizen science programs. It involves data collection by members of the public that in other cases would be difficult to collect. Citizen scientists receive personal benefits such as increased knowledge or improved skills, a sense of fulfillment or pride, strengthened social bonds, and increased wellbeing in terms of better physical and mental health. In addition, they contribute in the scientific research by collecting data, while enjoying diving and/or snorkeling.

The overall goal of the data collection is the identification of marine species and monitoring of changes in biodiversity over time.
